We are so grateful for another exciting year in Sports Journalism, because we have so much success to celebrate.

• We are officially a MSU minor! We have more than 40 students picking the minor – in only one semester. If you are interested, read up!
• We had another successful Sports Journalism Education Abroad class, to Paris and Rome, in summer 2018. Check out the highlights of the trip, which took us from the races horses of Normandy to L’Equipe in Paris to discussing social media at the Vatican. Our next Sports JRN Education Abroad is in 2020!
• Our students continue to be superstars: Souichi Terada (2018 summer intern) and now Ariana Taylor (2019 class) are named as part of the prestigious Sports Journalism Institute classes; the State News has Terada, Michael Duke and Kara Keating (2019) as sports editors – a huge statement about diversity in sports journalism; Keating and Katherine White were 2018 finalists for the Association for Women in Sports Media’s national scholarship/internship contest in writing and broadcast production; Remi Monaghan won the Laurain Scholarship from the Society of Professional Journalists in Detroit; and students do internships everywhere from MLB.com to CNN to the Bleacher Report.
• The Spartan Sports Report wins awards and expands to do more reports (minute recaps), and include more students in the production and story-telling!
• A group of MSU sports JRN students covered the Pistons-Cavaliers game at the Breslin Center as professional media, a first for MSU JRN.
• IMPACT Sports adds live play-by-play from all MSU football and basketball games, giving more opportunities to aspiring broadcasters.
• JRN416 launches, teaching upper-level sports journalism students the nuances of running a sports media operation and management theory
• JRN418 adds Michigan State Athletics as a content partner, providing features on athletes. 418 also provides content for WKAR Current Sports radio and works with FOX Sports U/Fox Sports Detroit for a real-world experience.
• JRN317 partnered with Okemos high school to cover their teams and games, giving real-time experience in beat writing.

We have a lot to be thankful for – most of all, we are thankful for our amazing alumni, fantastic students and faculty.
